Me and what I do

A professional singer and singing-teacher since 1998, I was previously a school teacher of -amongst other subjects- Drama and Theatre. Having always loved words, been passionate about music and intrigued by people, the desire to bring words to life, as an actor and director of plays, led me into the world of plays-with-music. The wonderful world of musicals, operettas and then opera.

Since being back in England, I have been dedicating my energies to becoming a full-time educator, coach, voice-guide; call it what you will.

Fascinated by people and their voices from a very young age and how we demonstrate so much about ourselves via our individual vocal signature, it seemed like a logical progression after being on stage, to want to help people discover their personal sound, their ‘voice.’ Ultimately, I would like to convert this knowledge into developing singing therapy, which I already know to be a very effective and useful way of assisting people address difficult periods and problems which may arise in their lives.

In the meantime, I continue to learn and teach about the amazing sounds we can all make and how to cultivate this into what we call singing, in whichever form: from childhood sounds and song to our various cultural and folk traditions; performance singing such as recitals, vaudeville, musical, operetta, opera and of course the ‘pop’ music of the last 50 or 60 years plus. Whether in small groups, as a choir of many or as a soloist.

All of this requires a voice that works as well as it can. A ‘best’ voice. A ‘true’ voice. Your voice. So that is what I’m here to do. To help you to discover it or improve it.

So, I give individual lessons to:

  • complete beginners who want to ‘find’ their voices, maybe join a choir or just sing for themselves or friends or with family;

  • also, many sessions to choir members needing help with parts or languages;

  • to individuals who want to write and perform their own songs;

  • to young and older alike, who are learning pop songs, musical songs for pleasure and, maybe, performance;

  • to cabaret writers and artists;

  • to professional stage singers of opera, operetta, musical.

The purpose of Absolute Singing is to offer my many years and 1000s of hours of repertoire, training, experimenting, researching, listening and always improving to others who, like me want to know more or train to improve their technique and their understanding of their voice.

There is always something to learn.

Learn it absolutely
